Admin Biographical History Dr Thomas Arnold of Rugby was a British educator and traveler. He became headmaster of Rugby School in 1828 and revived the school by reforming its curriculum, athletics program, and social structure. He married Mary Penrose in 1820, and they had five sons and four daughters: Matthew (poet), Thomas, Edward Penrose, William Delafield, Walter, Jane Martha, Mary Hayes, Susannah and Frances. Branches which emerged from this family are the Arnold-Forsters and the Vere O'Briens.
Scope And Content This collection contains the papers of various members of the Arnold family, including correspondence, poems, memoirs and other prose, testamentary documents, newspaper cuttings, genealogical material and photographs. Some of the papers relate to land belonging to the family in Western Australia and some of the correspondence involves William Delafield Arnold and his wife Frances (née Hodgson) writing from India to various people.
